The upcoming clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on Wednesday, March 27 was preceded by a light-hearted moment. The incident, which involved Mumbai's former skipper Rohit Sharma's viral 'flying kiss' towards SRH opener Mayank Agarwal during the teams' practice session, created quite a stir.

The gesture was a playful reminder of a recent incident involving Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowler Harshit Rana, who gave a similar send-off to Mayank Agarwal after dismissing him during Hyderabad opening encounter at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

During the practice session, Rohit, known for his witty sense of humour, decided to recreate the 'flying kiss' moment with the Karnataka-born. After Sharma recreated the incident, Agarwal busted out in laughter. The SRH team initially shared the image on their social media platforms with the caption, “Flying kisses and friendly rivalries.” However, minutes later, the post was removed from their timelines.

The KKR pacer's celebration drew criticism from cricketing legends, including veteran Sunil Gavaskar, who condemned such “antics” on the field.

“He should not have done that. Did the batsman do anything to him when he was hitting him for sixes? Cricket can be played without these antics. It's the age of television. I understand that. Celebrate with your teammates, but no need for such antics for the opposition,” said Gavaskar as quoted by The Times of India.
