Kolkata Knight Riders took on Lucknow Super Giants in match 28 of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, April 14. KKR won the toss and opted to bowl first. Opener Quinton de Kock and right-hand batter Deepak Hooda departed after scoring 10 and 8 respectively.

The visitors found themselves at 49/2 after six overs. Skipper KL Rahul and young Ayush Badoni had the responsibility of steadying the ship. Both stitched a partnership of 39 runs before KL Rahul was dismissed after scoring 39 runs off 27 balls.

Marcus Stoinis' stay at the crease was short-lived as he departed after scoring a mere 10 runs. Badoni fell right after and could manage to add 29 runs to LSG's tally. In form batter, Nicholas Pooran had the role of giving the visitors a late flourish to their struggling innings. He didn't disappoint as he scored 45 runs off 32 balls, including two boundaries and four sixes, before being dismissed by Mitchell Starc. Arshad Khan was the last wicket that fell for the visitors as he was dismissed on the final ball of the first innings. LSG ended their innings at 161/7. Starc was the best bowler for the hosts as he ended with figures of 3/28.

Phil Salt and Shreyas Iyer come to KKR’s rescue 

KKR's chase started well as they got 22 runs in the first over. But Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi departed in quick successions, scoring six and seven respectively. From there on it was wicketkeeper-batter Philp Salt and skipper Shreyas Iyer who stitched a match-winning partnership of 120 runs to to seal the game for their side.

Salt scored a brilliant knock of 89 runs off 47 balls which included 14 boundaries and three sixes. Iyer on the other hand scored an unbeaten 38, including six boundaries. Mohsin Khan was the only LSG bowler to pick the wickets as he ended with the figures of 2/29. KKR ended their innings at 162/2 and won the game by eight wickets with 26 balls remaining.
