Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings clashed against each other in match 29 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 14. CSK tried to move Ajinkya Rahane up the order, but it didn't work as Gerald Coetzee got his wicket within the powerplay. Rachin Ravindra was also dismissed by Shreyas Gopal in the eighth over.

Just when MI had things under control, Shivam Dube and Ruturaj Gaikwad teamed up and showed a fantastic partnership for the third wicket. Both players played some exquisite shots during their partnership and also managed to score their fifties in the process.

During the match, Shreyas Gopal bowled only one over due to Dube's threat. However, Romario Shepherd had to face some great shots instead. Towards the end of the game, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a couple of wily overs to restrict Daryl Mitchell. But then, MS Dhoni walked out to bat and hit a hat-trick of sixes in the final over of the innings. This made all the difference as CSK posted a total of 206 on the board.

In pursuit of a target of 207, Mumbai Indians started off strong by racing past 70 runs in the first seven overs. However, Matheesha Pathirana struck with his first delivery, dismissing Ishan Kishan and one of Mumbai's top batters, Suryakumar Yadav in the same over. Despite this setback, Mumbai managed to recover with Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma forming a partnership to keep the required run rate in check. However, Pathirana once again proved to be the deciding factor as he dismissed Varma, slowing down Mumbai's progress.

MI succumb to CSK despite Rohit’s century

Hardik Pandya came in next and unfortunately struggled to get going, consuming six deliveries and disrupting the momentum of the chase. Eventually, he holed out to Tushar Deshpande, and following that, MI never managed to get back in the chase. Rohit, who had been batting well throughout, continued to fight until the end, but he didn't receive enough support from the other end. Despite Rohit's excellent 105 off 63, MI fell short by 20 runs.
