IPL 2024: Top 10 Memes from RCB vs PBKS, Match 6
Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Punjab Kings by four wickets in Match 6 of IPL 2024 in Bengaluru.
Match 6 saw the Royal Challengers Bengaluru hosting the Punjab Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In front of a jam-packed stadium, RCB's skipper won the toss and put PBKS in to bat first.
Notwithstanding PBKS only losing the sole wicket of Jonny Bairstow early in the piece, the visitors only managed to put up 40 on the board in the first six, with their skipper Shikhar Dhawan going at a run-a-ball, and Prabhsimran Singh following suit, going at just above a strike-rate of 100.
The second wicket came via Glenn Maxwell, who got rid of the latter with RCB's wicketkeeper and top-scorer of their first game against the Chennai Super Kings, Anuj Rawat, taking a comfortable catch at the end. The next three batters to follow, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curren, and Jitesh Sharma, all got off to starts but didn't make the most of them, getting dismissed after regular intervals of time.
Despite Maxwell having a chat through the Player Mic during the initial few overs of the match about him not wanting to roll his arm over at the ground which could well be mentioned as the bowler's graveyard, he struck once again, this time dismissing Dhawan for a steady 45 (37).
A late blitz by Shashank Singh off Alzarri Joseph and RCB's final over propelled his team to 176/6 after their quota of 20 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Yash Dayal were the pick of the bowlers, going for an aggregate of 49 off eight overs, with the former scalping two and the left-arm with a solitary wicket.

Coming to the chase, there was drama written over it right from the get-go, with the first over bowled by Curran going for 16, which included a second-ball dropped catch of Kohli by Bairstow, who in retrospect, was standing a bit too close, with the ball bursting through his hands, a flick off the pads, and two majestic cover drives by the King, all of these leading to four boundaries being scored.
Moving on, Kohli was looking to be in fine nick, rotating strike as and when required and hitting boundaries with ease, hitting a total of eight boundaries in the powerplay itself. However, the foreign contingent of RCB - du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Maxwell, all departed after scoring three apiece.
Kagiso Rabada and Harpreet Brar, PBKS' first and second-change, respectively, contained the RCB batters really well, picking two wickets each, with the latter going for just 13 runs off his four-over spell, as well as hanging on to the ball at wide-third, to dismiss Kohli after a well-made 77 off 49, with him notching his 51st fifty in the IPL in the process.
All odds were against RCB, with Rawat getting dismissed LBW on the second ball of the 17th over, with RCB still requiring 47 off 22. Out came Impact Player Mahipal Lomror to the crease, and along with old-timer Dinesh Karthik, played just the perfect innings one could ask for.
They absolutely stole the show and brought it to a situation where their team needed just ten off the final over, with both of them hitting two fours and a maximum each. The last over was bowled by Arshdeep Singh and was absolutely dispatched for a wonderful six off a pre-meditated scoop. The third ball of the over was drilled down the gound by Karthik to provide RCB their first win of the campaign. Kohli won the Player of the Match, deservedly so, for his sublime 77 off 49.
