Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals faced off in Match 19 of the Indian Premier League 2024 on Saturday. RR won the toss and opted to bowl first on a hard deck at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The RCB openers, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis were off to a solid start but lacked the courage to utilise the powerplay to their full potential. It was evident as their 125-run stand for the first wicket demanded 14 overs.

With Du Plessis departing after 44 off 33 by Yuzvendra Chahal, Glenn Maxwell continued his forgettable outings scoring just one run. Saurav Chauhan, who was playing his debut game, had just nine runs to offer. Cameron Green joined Kohli who was on the brink of eight IPL century. Kohli got to his well-deserved hundred and ended his knock remaining unbeaten on 113 off 72. RCB who showed claimed high at the start of their innings, managed just 183 runs losing three wickets.

Chasing a gettable target in terms of RR’s standards, Yashasvi Jaiswal further failed to get back to his form and failed to open his account. Then came the party starters of the night. Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler showed no mercy to RCB’s bowling attack. The last over of the powerplay by Mayank Dagar was a statement given by Buttler fetching 20 runs. The duo went on to procure 148 for the second wicket and showed RCB their shortcomings in bowling.

Buttler makes a comeback after an extended lean patch

Mohammed Siraj finally managed to break the longstanding partnership by plucking Sanju away. The RR captain had already made a difference with his 69 off 42. Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel had qualms in staying at the crease as they walked back after scoring four and two respectively. Buttler continued his dream innings and with Shimron Hetmyer at the non-striker's end, he looked at ease. The last over demanded one run for RR to win and a six for Buttler’s century. The batter finished things off in style with a maximum scoring 100 off 58 and RR won by six wickets. They also remain unbeaten in the IPL 2024 so far.
