Despite Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon Virat Kohli bringing up the first century by a batter in the ongoing edition of the IPL as well as notching up his eighth ton in the history of the tournament, his side couldn't back his exemplary pyrotechnics with the bat, slumping to their fourth defeat in five games against the Rajasthan Royals by six wickets with five deliveries to spare.
The truth of the matter is that the entire RCB innings was carried by Kohli (113* off 72), with the rest of the batters only managing to put 59 off 48, with there being a massive polarity in the strike rate of the different groups - Kohli going at 156.94, while the latter managing just 122.92.
Despite such a formidable effort, there were certain experts who were concerned regarding Kohli's strike rate, one of them being a former foe of Kohli on the field, left-arm pacer Junaid Khan, who holds the distinct record of getting Kohli dismissed the most number of times (3). The backdrop for all these contests is the 2012/13 ODI series played out in India, where Pakistan managed to defeat India and clinch the ODI series by a margin of 2-1.
Taking to X, Junaid trolled Kohli, congratulating him on the undesired feat, with Kohli taking a joint-record of 67 deliveries to bring up his century, equalling former RCBian Manish Pandey's record against the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, way back in 2009.
Congratulations Virat kholi on the slowest 💯 in the history of IPL#RRvRCB #IPL2024

Kohli breaks yet another record with a ton vs RR
Kohli's 113* (72) against RR became the highest individual score by a batter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, surpassing Ajinkya Rahane's 105* (63) which came five seasons back for the home team in the 2019 edition of the IPL against the Delhi Capitals at the same venue.
