Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered their first defeat in IPL 2025 as Gujarat Titans (GT) outplayed them at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, April 2. However, Liam Livingstone's performance with the bat as well as on the field stood out for the home side in match No. 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The England all-rounder wasn't at his best in the first innings with the bat as he was handed a three lives by the Titans fielders. However, he made it count by slamming a 40-ball 54 on a pitch which wasn't easy for batting. Livingstone's knock helped RCB finish on a respectable total of 169/8 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first.
Gujarat got off to a decent start, with Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan adding 32 runs for the first wicket inside the first five overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided the initial breakthrough for RCB as he dismissed the Gujarat captain, thanks to a fine catch from Livingstone.
The incident happened on the fourth ball of the fifth over. Gill tried to hit a lofted shot over the infield. However, while his target was over the cover region, a hint of outward movement meant that the Punjab batter got a thick edge, which lobbed up towards the deep backward point. Livingstone rushed in from the boundary line and dived forward to take a really good catch.

However, Livingstone's efforts on the night were unsuccessful as Jos Buttler's unbeaten half-century (73*) and Mohammed Siraj's three-for (3/19) orchestrated an essential win for the former champions. Siraj and Sai Kishore have been instrumental with their economical bowling spells. Siraj's ability to deliver tight overs and pick up crucial wickets has been a significant asset for his team. Similarly, Sai Kishore's consistent line and length have effectively contained opposition batsmen, contributing to building pressure during critical phases of the game.
