CSK suffered their third consecutive loss of the IPL 2025
3 Min Read

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) faced each other in the 17th match of the IPL 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The home side lost their third consecutive match of the season and put up a disappointing performance. More importantly, their batting approach towards chasing a big total has been questionable, as no batter showed any sort of intent to win the match.
DC were clinical in all facets of the game. They scored a total of 183/6 on the back of a good batting performance. At no point in the run chase did they seem to be worried in defending the total. CSK never seemed to be in the game and dug their own grave. DC batted well, bowled extremely well, and fielded decently to claim their first win at Chepauk against CSK since 2010.

Key Moments from CSK vs DC, Match 17 of IPL 2025
1. KL Rahul scores his first fifty of the IPL 2025
Batting first, DC lost the wicket of Jake Fraser McGurk. What followed was KL Rahul's good batting performance. With decent performances at the other end, Rahul was able to steady DC's ship with a mix of caution and aggression. Abhishek Porel, Sameer Rizvi, and Axar Patel assisted him with their knocks.
In his stay in the middle, Rahul scored 77 runs in 51 balls at a strike rate of 151.00, which included 6 fours and 3 sixes. It was his first fifty of the season, and Rahul made a statement. By the time the star batter was dismissed, DC had posted 179/5, which was already above par on a typical Chepauk surface.

2. Mitchell Starc's spell with the ball across different phases
Mitchell Starc breathed fire with the ball, as he played a key role in DC defending the total in Chennai. With the new ball, he swung away from the left-handers. The left-arm pacer did not allow the batters to settle in the middle at any point. The star bowler dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad by setting him up well.
The very next ball saw him nailing a swinging yorker. Due to a lack of clarity over the impact, a review was not taken, and Starc was denied with a wicket. Even in his second spell, the Australian pacer made the life of the batters only difficult. At death, he nailed yorkers and ensured batters could not score runs easily off his bowling.
3. DC's collective bowling efforts
It was a collective bowling effort from Delhi Capitals, who allowed CSK to be in the game at no point. All bowlers stepped up and restricted CSK batters from gaining any sort of momentum. As the leader of the attack, Starc started and ended well, as he finished with figures of 4-0-27-1.
Likewise, Mukesh Kumar claimed 1/36 in his 4 overs, including a good caught and bowled dismissal. Mohit Sharma bowled for 0/27, which included great execution of yorkers. The spin trio of Vipraj Nigam, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel choked CSK's batting with their spells of 4-0-27-2, 4-0-30-1, and 1-0-5-0, respectively.
