Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowled remarkably well and restricted Delhi Capitals (DC) to 162/8 in their 20 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, April 27, in match No. 46 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Rajat Patidar's decision to win the toss and bowl first paid dividends in the high-voltage clash. Abishek Porel got his team off to a brisk start yet again but Faf du Plessis, who finally returned from an injury layoff, looked rusty at the other end. After Porel was dimissed for an 11-ball 28, hopes were high from Karun Nair, but the veteran fell cheaply.
KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis couldn't take the attack to the RCB bowlers as their partnership yielded just 28 runs from 31 balls. Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma bowled brilliantly in tandem and found some assistance from the surface.
Faf was dismissed for a 26-ball 22 by Krunal. Axar Patel and Rahul tried to up the ante but the DC captain failed to convert his start into something substantial. Rahul departed in the 17th over after scoring a 39-ball 41. Ashutosh Sharma also fell in the same over as DC slumped to 120/6.
However, Tristan Stubbs cut loose in the death overs and Vipraj Nigam also hit a maximum to lift DC to 162/8 in their 20 overs. However, this score seems a bit under-par. To put things in perspective, this is the lowest first innings total in eight games in Delhi in IPL since 2024.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood bagged three and two wickets, respectively. Meanwhile, Yash Dayal and Krunal chipped in with a wicket apiece.
During the mid-innings break, Hazlewood said that a break ahead of the tournament helped him to get refreshed mentally and physically. He also lauded Bhuvneshwar's effort with the ball on Sunday.
"Everything feels really good. I feel am getting better every game. Coming off from a bit of a layoff leading into the tournament. That I guess refreshed me mentally and physically. My run up to the crease has been good. It is a tough one to read. The start might be the easiest part. It is indeed a tough deck to read," Hazlewood said while speaking to JioHotstar.
"The environment is good. Good bunch of guys. The weather is beautiful there in Bangalore. Everything is going well. We are doing well away from home. It is about the process and delivering and executing it. Often you execute it and still don't get wickets. Sometimes Bhuvi did the tough work. Credit to him," the Australian pacer added.
