Gujarat Titans (GT) have posted a total against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their IPL 2025 encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, and they will be happy with that score. This game was Hardik Pandya's return as MI captain after missing the opener, with Suryakumar Yadav having led the team.
Pandya's inclusion led to a change in MI's playing XI, with young pacer Vignesh Puthur missing out despite his impressive performance against Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, the Titans stuck to their previous lineup. Shubman Gill mentioned at the toss that GT would have liked to bowl first but were comfortable posting a target, given their strong batting unit.
The home team got off to a solid start, with openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill building a strong partnership. Gill, however, was the first to depart for 38 off 27 balls, caught by Naman Dhir off Hardik Pandya’s bowling. Jos Buttler, coming in at No. 3, looked dangerous and smashed 39 off 24 balls before he was dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
However, it was Sai Sudharsan who played the anchor role with his 63 runs off 41 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes. His innings came to an end after being trapped lbw by Trent Boult in the 18th over. The 2022 champions lost wickets in a tandem toward the end, with Pandya dismissing M Shahrukh Khan (9 off 7) and Rashid Khan (6 off 4) falling to Satyanarayana Raju. Sherfane Rutherford (18 off 11) and Rahul Tewatia (run out for 0) also departed quickly, making it difficult for the side to go beyond 200.
Despite the late collapse, they managed to post a strong total of 196/8 in 20 overs. MI’s bowling efforts was decent, with their skipper ending with figures of 2/29, while Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and chipped in with a wicket each. With MI needing 197 to win, all eyes were on their star-studded batting line up.
