Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finished on a solid score of 200/6 despite losing two wickets inside the first three overs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday, April 3.
Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to field first in a repeat of last year's final. The SRH skipper dismissed Quinton de Kock in the second over. Mohammed Shami also got amongst the wickets as he got rid of Sunil Narine in the third over. However, KKR did not get bogged down as captain Ajinkya Rahane and the in-form Angkrish Raghuvanshi took the attack to the Sunrisers bowlers.
They formed a brilliant 81-run partnership off 51 deliveries to set things up nicely for the big hitters to follow. Rahane and Raghuvanshi departed in quick succession after scoring 38 (27) and 50 (32), respectively. Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh joined forces and played some fantastic strokes during their swashbuckling 91-run partnership off 41 balls.

Venkatesh was dismissed for a 29-ball 60 in the last over. He hit seven fours and three sixes during his sparkling knock. Rinku remained unbeaten on 32 off 17 as KKR finished on 200/6 in their 20 overs. Except Simarjeet Singh, all other SRH bowlers who bowled on the night bagged one wicket.
During the mid-innings break, Venkatesh said that the ball was holding up a bit. He reckoned that KKR had posted a competitive total and that some good bowling and fielding would give them their second win of the season.
"It was evident that the ball was holding up a bit, not the Eden I have played over the last two years, I think this is a very competitive score, if we bowl and field well, we should win this. I was watching the match from the screen, it wasn't easy to play shots, the ball was holding a bit, Ajinkya (Rahane) and Angkrish ((Raghuvanshi) were really good to set-up the innings for us. It helps a lot, the BCCI has made it mandatory for everyone to play domestic cricket and it gives us a good chance of playing against good bowlers, you've seen so many bowlers coming around and it's very challenging playing against them," Venkatesh told the official broadcaster after his exhilarating knock.
