Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finished on 180/5 in their 20 overs after Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bat first against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, April 19.
LSG did not get off to a great start as they lost the wicket of the in-form Mitchell Marsh in the third over. The Australian stalwart was dismissed by Jofra Archer for four runs. Aiden Markram took the attack to the Rajasthan bowlers inside the powerplay. However, Sandeep Sharma struck in the sixth over to send the dangerous Nicholas Pooran packing.
Rishabh Pant couldn't build on his half-century from the previous game as he was dismissed for three runs off nine balls by Wanindu Hasaranga. At 54/3 in the eighth over, LSG desperately needed a partnership. Markram and Ayush Badoni provided just that as they added 76 runs off 49 balls. The South African T20 skipper was dismissed after playing a fine knock of 66 off 45 balls.
Badoni departed immediately after scoring a half-century. At the back end of the innings, Abdul Samad smashed four sixes off 10 balls to finish unbeaten on 30. His breathtaking cameo helped LSG finish on 180/5. Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers for RR. He finished with figures of 2/31 in his four overs. Tushar Deshpande also bowled a fine spell, conceding just 26 runs in his four overs and picking up a solitary wicket. Sandeep Sharma was the most expensive bowler for RR as he gave away 55 runs in his four overs.
Rajasthan will need to bat sensibly as 181 is a pretty good target at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, and LSG have some fine bowlers in their ranks. Leg-spinners Digvesh Rathi and Ravi Bishnoi are expected to play key roles for them. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Yashasvi Jaiswal and the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who are expected to open the batting for the inaugural champions.
