A solid half-century from KL Rahul and a brilliant knock from Abishek Porel helped Delhi Capitals (DC) edge past Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by eight wickets in Match No. 40 of the IPL 2025 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. The chase of 160 was made to look like a walk in the park, as DC reached 161/2 in just 17.5 overs to notch their second win over LSG this season and climb to 12 points.
Put into bat first, LSG had a strong opening stand between Aiden Markram (52 off 33) and Mitchell Marsh (45 off 36) to reach 87 without loss in 10 overs. But the innings collapsed once Markram fell to Dushmantha Chameera. The DC bowlers, especially Mukesh Kumar (4/33), made sure to finish well and restrict the opposition to a sub-par total. Mukesh ran through the middle order, dismissing Marsh, Abdul Samad, Ayush Badoni, and Rishabh Pant to stop LSG at 159/6. Badoni’s 36 off 21 and a few late boundaries gave LSG something to bowl at, but it never looked enough.
In reply, the visiting team started decently with Karun Nair hitting early boundaries before falling to Markram for 15. Rahul, facing his former franchise for the first time since parting ways, made the most of the opportunity. He anchored the innings alongside Porel, who brought up his maiden fifty of the season in 33 balls before falling for 51.
KL Rahul, meanwhile, ensured the chase remained on course. He brought up his half-century and, in the process, crossed 5000 runs in the IPL, becoming the fastest ever to do so in just 130 innings. Axar Patel too played a handy cameo of 34* off 20. However, Rahul sealed the win with a six over midwicket off Prince Yadav, to hand his side yet another win. With this Capitals continue their impressive run in the tournament as they sit in the second position on the points table with 12 points and a positive NRR of 0.657.
