Punjab Kings (PBKS) outclassed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a one-sided clash at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, April 1.
Opting to bowl first, Punjab got off to a great start as Arshdeep dismissed the dangerous Mitchell Marsh in the first over. Aiden Markram hit a few sublime boundaries before being dismissed for 28. Rishabh Pant also departed as LSG slumped to 35/3 inside the powerplay.
Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran resurrected the ship with a 54-run partnership off 40 deliveries. The latter was dismissed for 44 off 30 balls by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 12th over. David Miller tried to take the innings deep, but he perished for an 18-ball 19. Badoni anchored the innings well, while Abdul Samad's exhilarating cameo of 27 off 12 balls gave the LSG innings some much-needed momentum in the death overs.
In the end, Lucknow Super Giants finished on 171/7 in their 20 overs on what looked like a challenging surface. Arshdeep Singh bagged a three-for but conceded 43 runs in his four overs.
In reply, Prabhsimran Singh got off to a dazzling start, hitting boundaries at will. Digvesh Rathi was introduced in the powerplay, and he picked up the wicket of Priyansh Arya. Shreyas Iyer came out to bat at No. 3, and he took his time to get accustomed to the conditions. Prabhsimran's blitzkrieg from the other end deflated LSG's spirit.
The wicketkeeper-batter was eventually dismissed by Digvesh for a 34-ball 69. Nehal Wadhera came out as the Impact Player, and he finished unbeaten on 43 off 25 balls. Shreyas scored his second half-century in a row, staying not out of 52 off 30 balls as PBKS won by eight wickets with 22 balls to spare.
