Mumbai Indians extended their dominance over Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025. MI's home return was fruitful, as they claimed a win over KKR by 8 wickets with 43 balls to spare. The win was a statement, as MI announced their return into the tournament with a massive win, which helped them to claim their first win and improve their net run rate.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. MI's pace trio of Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Ashwani Kumar proved their skipper right by dominating their opponents right from the word go. Boult got rid of Sunil Narine for a 2-ball duck. Chahar wasted no time, as he dismissed Quinton De Kock and Venkatesh Iyer within the Powerplay overs.

But the star of the show was Ashwani, who claimed 4/24 in his spell of 3 overs. It was the best bowling figures for an Indian bowler on his IPL debut. Hardik Pandya, Mitchell Santner, and Vignesh Puthur helped Deepak, Boult, and Ashwani dismiss KKR to a paltry total of 116 runs. It was not a challenging run chase for the home side.

Chasing 117, MI lost Rohit Sharma early in the innings. However, Ryan Rickleton ensured no other hiccups from his end. The Southpaw scored an unbeaten 62*(41), which included 4 fours and 5 sixes. In the process, he completed his maiden IPL fifty. At the other end, Suryakumar Yadav continued his good run and scored an unbeaten 27*(9) to help MI beat KKR by 8 wickets.
