Mumbai Indians won their fifth match consecutively in the IPL 2025
The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their winning streak by securing their fifth consecutive victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. They defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 54 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in thre Match No. 45 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday, April 27.
MI got off to a flying start in the first innings. The MI opening batter Ryan Rickelton set the tone right from the first over, while Rohit Sharma opened his account with two sixes off his first two balls. Rohit departed early and was dismissed by Mayank Yadav. Rickelton continued the momentum and scored 58 off 32 balls. In the middle overs, Suryakumar Yadav handled the innings brilliantly by smashing 54 runs off just 28 balls and crossing the 4000-run milestone in IPL history.
For LSG all bowlers went expensive, where everyone conceded over 40 runs in their four-over spells. Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan managed to pick up two wickets. At the end of their innings, MI posted a commanding total of 215 in 20 overs.
LSG struggled right from the start by losing wickets at regular intervals. Mitchell Marsh (34) and Ayush Badoni (35) were the only decent contributions with the bat and as no other batter crossed the 30-run mark.
For MI, Jasprit Bumrah was best man with the ball by dismissing opener Aiden Markram in his first over and later picked up three wickets in a single over during the death and finished with brilliant figures of 4/22. Trent Boult also claimed 3 wickets in his spell and Will Jacks chipped in with a couple of wickets as well, which included the dangerous wicket of Nicholas Pooran on his very first delivery.
In the end, MI bowled out LSG comfortably and clinched a victory and registered their sixth win of the tournament. Meanwhile, LSG suffered their fifth loss and are struggling to stay in contention for the playoffs.
