IPL 2025 Memes: Hilarious Reactions from PBKS vs KKR, Match 31 at Mullanpur Stadium
Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 16 runs.
In what will go down as one of the most memorable comebacks in IPL history, Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled off a sensational 16-run victory over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a thrilling low-scoring clash at Mullanpur. Chasing a target of 112, KKR collapsed under pressure, bowled out for just 95 in 15.1 overs, thanks to a four-wicket haul from Yuzvendra Chahal and a crucial spell from Marco Jansen.
KKR looked well in control at 62 for 2 at one point, with Ajinkya Rahane (17) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (37) steadying the chase after early setbacks. But the dismissal of Rahane by Chahal in the eighth over, one that he chose not to review, triggered a shocking breakdown. Chahal bagged the wickets of Raghuvanshi, Ramandeep Singh, and Rinku Singh in quick succession to leave KKR stunned at 76 for 7.
Even Andre Russell, who raised KKR’s hopes with a quick 17 off 11 balls, couldn’t complete the chase. With 17 needed and only tailenders left, Jansen produced a stunning delivery to bowl Russell and seal a win for PBKS, making it the lowest total ever defended in IPL history.
Earlier in the evening, KKR was impressive with the ball. After being asked to field first, they dismantled PBKS for just 111 in 15.3 overs. Harshit Rana ended with the figures of 3 for 25, including a double-wicket over that removed Priyansh Arya and PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer. Sunil Narine (2/14) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/21) bamboozled the Punjab batters, while Anrich Nortje and Vaibhav Arora also chipped in.
PBKS got off to a good start with Arya and Prabhsimran Singh adding 33 in just three overs, but Rana’s spell turned the game. The middle-order collapse included the wickets of Josh Inglis, Nehal Wadhera, and Glenn Maxwell, all fell cheaply. Suryansh Shedge’s debut as an Impact Sub also failed to pay off, and PBKS were bowled out with more than four overs to spare. But Punjab’s bowlers responded in style. Xavier Bartlett and Jansen struck early, and Chahal’s skills in the middle overs flipped the game.
