IPL 2025: RR vs RCB, Match 28 – Full highlights, top moments & winner details
Royal Challengers Bengaluru handed Rajasthan Royals their fourth loss of IPL 2025.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bounced back in style after a defeat as they handed Rajasthan Royals (RR) their fourth loss of IPL 2025 with a comfortable nine-wicket win at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, April 13. Coming off a disappointing outing against Delhi Capitals, RCB stuck to the basics and showed calmness to return to winning ways.
Asked to bat first, RR's innings never quite got going despite a 75 off 47 from Yashasvi Jaiswal. On a sluggish pitch, Jaiswal held one end strongly, but the lack of support from the other end hurt RR as they couldn't reach a defendable total. The remaining batters could only score 47 runs in 49 balls.
Skipper Sanju Samson also struggled as he perished after adding 15 off 19. While Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel did try to score runs at a higher strike rate, but were restricted by the RCB at 173/4. Krunal Pandya finished with 1/29 from his four overs, while other bowlers provided good support.
Chasing 174, RCB wasted no time. Phil Salt dismantled the RR bowling attack in the powerplay. His 33-ball 65 knock was laced with five boundaries and six sixes. Once Salt departed, Virat Kohli took over the anchor's role. With another half-century, his 66th in IPL, Kohli equalled David Warner’s record and ensured there were no further challenges in the chase. Devdutt Padikkal supported him well with an unbeaten 40, as RCB reached the target in 17.3 overs. With this win, RCB jumped to the third spot on the points table, winning their fourth consecutive match on the road.
Key Moments from RR vs RCB, Match 28 of IPL 2025
1. Rajasthan faces the brunt of Phil Salt's carnage:
Rajasthan-based franchise faced the brunt of RCB opener Phil Salt’s carnage as he punished the opposition bowlers, smashing 65 off just 33 balls at a strike rate of 196.96. With five boundaries and six sixes, Salt’s innings made RCB's chase look easy. Facing his England teammate Jofra Archer for the first time in T20s, Salt smashed Archer over square leg and moved across the stumps to exploit the shorter leg-side boundary. Salt was dropped on 40 by Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the side paid the price. With this knock, he now leads the charts for both most runs (181) and sixes (11) in the powerplay this IPL season.
2. Virat Kohli notches up his 100th T20 fifty
Virat Kohli reached yet another milestone as he brought up his 100th T20 half-century with a brilliant unbeaten 62 off 45 balls against RR. His third half-century of the season came in typical fashion. He survived an early scare when Riyan Parag dropped him off Sandeep Sharma, who has dismissed Kohli seven times in the IPL, the most by any bowler. Since 2022, Kohli has scored the most 50+ scores in IPL (19 in 51 innings). His latest milestone places him second only to David Warner (108) in T20 fifties globally. In the chase, he made sure to stay till the end and play the perfect second fiddle when Phil Salt was going out in the powerplay.
3. RCB bowlers contain RR to below-par score despite Jaiswal's knock
Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed with his 75 off 47 balls, but RCB's bowlers made sure to restrict the home team to a below-par total at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, where the average first-innings score since 2023 stands at 180. Krunal Pandya (1/29) was economical, while Yash Dayal (1/36), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/32), and Josh Hazlewood (1/26) kept putting pressure on the Rajasthan batters. Dayal’s slower ball to dismiss Riyan Parag on a sticky surface was appreciated by his teammates and experts alike. Despite cameos from Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel, RR’s innings never really took off as RCB’s attack ensured the Royals' momentum never got going.
