IPL: Virat Kohli becomes first player to amass 7000 runs in tournament's history
Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli became the first batter to score 7000 runs in IPL history.
Royal Challengers Bangalore's batting superstar Virat Kohli scaled another unprecedented milestone in the Indian Premier League as he became the first batter to breach the 7000 run mark in the history of the competition during the encounter against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Virat Kohli, playing in front of his home crowd in Delhi, got off the mark with a trademark boundary in the first over of the match. The former RCB skipper, who is the outright leading run scorer in the competition's illustrious history, became the first batter to amass 7000 runs in the competition, with his compatriot Shikhar Dhawan still a fair distance away from the landmark in second position.
Ahead of the crucial encounter against David Warner's side, the local boy got in touch with his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma and took his blessing in front of a vociferous home crowd. The star top-order batter has been a bit low on runs in recent matches, but he is looking in good nick against the bottom-placed side.
