After losing to West Indies in the five-match T20I series, India were under some sort of pressure of doing well against Ireland. The task was difficult, especially with so many newcomers in the mix but the Men in Blue were up for the task and eventually defeated the home team by two runs (DLS method) in order to gain a 1-0 lead in the series.
Meanwhile, the first T20I was extremely crucial for Indian fans as Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna made their long-awaited return to the national team. Both cricketers were out of action for quite some time due to their respective injuries but they recovered well and will be gunning to get into the national set-up for the upcoming Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. However, ahead of that, there is a bit of room for improvement for both of these cricketers.
Notably, Bumrah picked up two wickets in the first over itself to set the series ablaze but his pace remains a concern. He could barely touch 135 and that’s a worrying sign at the moment. Krishna too looked a bit rusty and that needs to change before the conclusion of the series. It is expected that the more games they play, the better they will get.
On the other hand, Barry McCarthy played an outstanding knock in Dublin. Batting at number eight, the cricketer hit 51* runs off 33 deliveries as Ireland posted 139 runs in the first innings of the match.
When it came to the chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a good start, but Jaiswal walked back to the pavilion after scoring 24 runs. Tilak Varma too failed to make a mark as Ireland were eyeing to bounce back against an inexperienced Indian side. However, Jaiswal and Gaikwad’s start eventually saved India as they were two runs ahead of the DLS score when rain came pouring. With that, the Jasprit Bumrah-led side took a 1-0 lead in the series but may not be extremely happy with their performance.
