Young opener Sam Konstas made his international debut in the fourth Test against India at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. He started aggressively and took on Jasprit Bumrah, who ended up conceding 54 runs in his first spell, which lasted for six overs. The 19-year-old ended up scoring 60 runs off 65 deliveries and managed to give a perfect start to the hosts.

Meanwhile, during his stay at the crease, the youngster had a verbal altercation with Virat Kohli, who he also idolizes. They had a shoulder bump in the middle that led to the war of words, as Usman Khawaja and on-field Michael Gough later intervened and separated the duo. Speaking on the incident after the game, Konstas noted that the emotion took over and added that such incidents can happen in cricket.

“I think the emotions got to both of us. I didn’t quite realise, I was doing my gloves. And then a little shoulder charge. But it happens, it’s cricket,” Konstas said to Seven Cricket.

Konstas talks about his dream debut

Konstas looked flawless against pacers during his stay at the crease. He batted well and might have even sealed his spot in the playing XI as the Pat Cummins-led side is eyeing to find a long-term solution. Konstas also noted that the team was welcoming and added that the captain advised him to be fearless in the middle.

“I think it was a bit of a blur, but a dream come true. Look at the turnout, full stadium. But yeah, the boys have been very welcoming, Pat Cummins, and it feels like home,” Konstas said about his debut.

“I think just being fearless, Cummins was telling me. We had our Christmas lunch yesterday, seeing the kids enjoy it, and yeah, you can tell it’s a really family-united group, so yeah, very stoked,” he said when asked about Cummins’ advice.
