‘It’s complete greed and over kill’ - Michael Vaughan dissatisfied with idea of India-Australia T20Is right after World Cup

The final of the ongoing ODI World Cup is looming around the corner. The summit clash of the tournament will feature a clash between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.

As both sides gear up to face off in the final and get their hands on the coveted title, a five-match T20I series between India and Australia is also right around the corner. The series will begin just four days after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup, with the first T20I scheduled to be played on Thursday, November 23, at the ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam.

Speaking of the series, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to lambast the idea of conducting a series a few days after the conclusion of the World Cup. Vaughan opined that the series screams greed and overkill and that the players should get some days of rest to celebrate their title win.

“It doesn’t right with me that the 2 finalists 4 days later will start a T20 series against each other. Why can’t we allow players the chance to have a moment of rest after a WC or whoever wins the chance to celebrate properly for a couple of weeks? It’s complete greed and overkill,” Michael Vaughan tweeted.

Australia inch past South Africa to make it to World Cup final

Speaking of the ongoing ODI World Cup, the two semi-finals of the tournament were action-packed as the Indian team broke its Kiwi curse and defeated New Zealand after a thrilling encounter between both sides.

Becoming the first team to reach the final, India waited in anticipation, and after the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa, it was decided that the Men in Yellow would be taking on the hosts in the summit clash of the tournament.

It is worth noting that India defeated Australia in their first game of the tournament, and the hosts will look for a similar outcome in the final as well.
