India versus Bangladesh game in an ICC tournament always brings some extra heat and controversy and November 2 at Adelaide Oval wasn’t any different. The rain-affected match saw India beat the Bangla Tigers by just five runs (DLS) to win their third match of the T20 World Cup 2022 but the drama off the field following the clash appears spicier than what happened on the field.

Bangladesh international Nurul Hasan after the match accused Virat Kohli of ‘fake fielding’ which eventually could have added five more runs to Bangladesh’s total resulting in their win. However, neither the batters nor the on-field umpires noticed and thus, they were denied any penalty runs.

Even though Shakib Al Hasan looked unhappy but couldn’t convince the umpires otherwise. However, the Bangladesh captain later spoke on the matter and pointed out that it’s the bowlers and the fielding team that always suffers during a wet outfield and not otherwise. The captain is not ready to make that excuse whatsoever.

The team was subjected to a lot of criticism on social media for complaining a lot on various reasons. In the end, it wasn't concluded that the alleged fake fielding caused any damage to the Bangladesh batters. However, now with a loss at the hands of India, the team would hope to get past Pakistan in their final group-stage match to remain alive in the competition.

Here is what Law 41.5 of MCC states about fake fielding- In case of 'The deliberate distraction, deception, or obstruction of the batter,' the umpire has right to award 5 penalty runs to the batting team and declare  the ball dead.
