Game 26 of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 featured a clash between Pakistan and South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 27. Both sides put in sensational performances throughout the game. However, it was the Proteas who maintained their brilliant run of form and managed to snag a win by one wicket.
Notably, it was bowler Keshav Maharaj who scored the winning runs for South Africa. Scoring 7* runs in 21 deliveries, Maharaj made sure that South Africa came out of the game as the victors.
However, the 33-year-old came into the spotlight for completely different reasons. Taking to Instagram after the win, Keshav Maharaj thanked God for the victory and even chanted ‘Jai Shree Hanuman, staying true to his Hindu roots.

South Africa register slim one-wicket win against Pakistan in ODI World Cup 2023 thriller
Talking of the ODI World Cup 2023 clash between Pakistan and South Africa, the game began with Pakistan coming into bat first. After the openers’ subpar showings, Babar Azam scored 50 runs in 65 deliveries. Furthermore, decent knocks by the middle-order batters helped Pakistan post a total of 270 runs on the board in the first innings.
As for South Africa, Tabraiz Shamsi was the highest wicket-taker with four wickets to his name. Marco Jansen took three wickets, as Gerald Coetzee took two and Lungi Ngidi struck once. Aiming to chase down the total, the Proteas got off to a subpar start.
Openers Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock scored 28 and 24 runs, respectively. Aiden Markram was the highest run-getter with a knock of 91 runs to his name. Pakistan’s bowling attack was well within the reach of a win. However, the lower middle order finished things off for South Africa, winning the game by one wicket.
