Jasprit Bumrah suffers injury scare in Asia Cup 2023 fixture versus Sri Lanka
Jasprit Bumrah recently returned to international cricket after recovering from a stress fracture on his back.
India and Sri Lanka are currently playing match four in the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo. Jasprit Bumrah, who recently returned to international cricket after 11 months, bowled with a lot of steam as India have only a 214-run target to defend. However, the Indian cricket fans had a heart-in-the-mouth moment when the Gujarat pacer almost twisted his ankle while trying to turn around and appeal on the follow-through.
The incident took place in the fourth ball of Sri Lanka's innings in the ongoing game, as Bumrah bowled a big inswinger to Pathum Nissanka. The right-handed batter closed his bat face and worked the ball towards the leg side to pick up a brace. Bumrah took his time and went on to complete the over without showing any signs of discomfort.
Fortunately for the Indians, in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 clash, he went on to dismiss Nissanka in his following over with a peach of a delivery. In his fourth over, Jasprit Bumrah sent back the experienced Kusal Mendis with the dipping slower delivery. After bowling a phenomenal five-over spell, Bumrah went inside the dressing room, presumably for some treatment, and returned to the field after a couple of overs.
Bumrah made a comeback post injury as a skipper of Team India on the Ireland tour
The 29-year-old returned to international cricket in the T20I series against Ireland. He led a second-string side to the European nation and won the three-match series 2-0. On a personal front, Jasprit Bumrah had a great campaign as he was named the Player of the Series for picking up four wickets in two games.
On Monday, September 11, Bumrah bowled a fine spell with the new ball as he picked up the wicket of Imam-ul-Haq with a beautiful delivery. The star pacer is key to India's chances in the ongoing Asia Cup and the subsequent ODI World Cup.
