New Zealand's esteemed white-ball skipper, Kane Williamson, found himself sidelined by a knee injury during his time with Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) this April. The blow left him unable to participate further in the season, leading to a surgical procedure on his right knee.

Nonetheless, the indomitable batter has shown unwavering determination, resuming his batting practice with a keen eye on regaining fitness for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.

On Tuesday, August 1, the 32-year-old shared a glimpse of his recent net session via his Instagram handle. His post read, "Nice to be back in the nets with the bat in hand for a few throws." It was heartening for fans to see him back in action after a long injury layoff, facing throwdowns in the nets to rediscover his rhythm.

However, his absence has been felt in the New Zealand squad, which is now preparing for a T20I series against UAE and England. Tim Southee, the experienced pace bowler, will now lead the team in Williamson's absence. Kiwis' upcoming tour against England will feature four T20Is and four ODIs.

Despite his injury woes, Williamson remains optimistic about his recovery and potential return for the World Cup. "Very much just trying to keep it week-to-week at the moment," he stated in June as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

"I haven't had such a long-term injury before but talking to other people that have, the journey is a bit of a long one so if you look too far ahead, it probably can become a little bit daunting. Whereas, one week at a time, ticking off those small markers, those little wins that are nice to experience," he had said.

Williamson's resilience, and determination go down as an inspiration for cricket enthusiasts worldwide, and they might be eagerly awaiting his triumphant comeback on the grand stage of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
