Kane Williamson wins internet by surprising his 99-year-old fan with a signed bat
'He’s not only a cricketer a man of character. He typically represents a real typical Kiwi,' said 99-year-old Williamson's fan Muru
Legendary batter Kane Williamson surprised his 99-year-old fan Muru on his birthday and also shared a moment with him and his daughter. The cricketer even presented him with a signed bat on behalf of all the New Zealand players that participated in the 2017 Test series against West Indies. Later, the two were spotted interacting for quite some time as Nalayani, Muru’s daughter revealed that his father started loving Williamson after the latter donated his match fee to terrorist victims in Pakistan in 2014.
Meanwhile, during the interaction, Muru opened up and stated that Williamson is not only a cricketer but also a man of character. He went on to add that the 32-year-old doesn’t only play for winning and that’s what makes him special.
“He’s not only a cricketer a man of character. He typically represents a real typical Kiwi. You (Williamson) have given cricket a new character. Not playing the game for winning,” Muru said while speaking to The NZ Project.
Williamson joins Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2023
Ahead of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has joined his team Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. Even though New Zealand are currently involved in a white-ball series against Sri Lanka, the Kiwi players playing in the IPL had no problem getting NOC as many of them have already reached India.
Notably, despite winning the trophy in their very first season, Gujarat Titans faced a couple of issues last year and one of them was definitely their top-order woes. The franchise also would have wanted to strengthen their number three role this season and hence signed Williamson in the auction.
Interestingly, after getting their hands on the Kiwi international, coach Ashish Nehra revealed that he didn’t expect to sign him at his base price and thus, was elated about it.
