In a touching moment that has gone viral, a diehard Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fan couldn't hold back tears while expressing his emotions to team mentor Gautam Gambhir.
The former KKR captain, who led the franchise to their two IPL titles, rejoined the side this year as a mentor after a successful stint with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). His return has coincided with KKR's brilliant run, as they currently top the IPL 2024 points table with 16 points from 11 games.
Gambhir joined KKR as a player in 2011 and captained them to glory in 2012 and 2014 before leaving after the 2017 season. His departure left a void that was difficult to fill for the franchise and its passionate fans. When he was roped in as the mentor ahead of IPL 2024, expectations rose, and the team delivered under his guidance, as evident.
In a video shared by the franchise on their social media handle, a fan gets emotional while thanking Gambhir for his return.
“I am one of your biggest fans. I want to say please don't leave us ever again. We can't even describe what we had to go through after you left (the franchise),” the fan said.

He then recited a famous Rabindranath Tagore song to express Gambhir's importance to the KKR faithful. “I want to tell this to you through a song - Tomaye Hridh Majharey Rakhbo Chere Debone (We will keep you in our hearts and never let go), hats how important you are to us.” the fan added. Gambhir, filled by the fan's love, thanked him for the passionate support for him and the Knight Riders.
