KKR vs RCB: After Virat Kohli dismissal saga, Gautam Gambhir captured arguing with fourth umpire in viral IPL 2024 moment
The reason for the argument was due to the umpire rejecting the request to substitute Rahmanullah Gurbaz as a substitute fielder in place of Sunil Narine.
Former Indian cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir recently went viral after he was seen having an animated chat with the fourth umpire during Kolkata Knight Riders’ recent clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Both sides locked horns in the 36th game of the tournament on Sunday, April 21.
Before the start of the 18th over of the second innings, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer was seen looking at Gambhir at the dugout after having a chat with the umpire. Seeing Iyer, Gambhir quickly got up and darted towards the fourth umpire and had an aggressive argument. Notably, KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit too joined him in the process.
Apparently, the reason for the argument was that Kolkata Knight Riders wanted to bring in Rahmanullah Gurbaz as a substitute fielder in place of Sunil Narine, as the latter had already completed his bowling spell. This move was well thought of by the two-time champions in a bid to get fresh legs into the field for the final two overs.
However, the request for the same was denied instantly by the on-field umpire, which caused Gambhir to have an animated chat with the official. As a result, the clip of the same has been going viral all over social media. Notably, the match was under much debate earlier already after Virat Kohli was dismissed under controversial circumstances due to new 'waist rule' which deemed the delivery as legal which infuriated Kohli to have an animated argument in the field.
