Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka had an animated chat with captain KL Rahul during IPL 2024. It was reported that their relationship turned bitter and more so after the franchise decided to part ways with the cricketer ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Ahead of that, Goenka did share a photo of the duo and called Rahul ‘family’ but both took digs against each other leading to the auction and for a brief time after it.
Speaking on the matter again, Goenka once again called Rahul ‘family’ and added that the Bengaluru-born is extremely talented and hoped that the cricketer realises his potential. He also expects the keeper-batter to do well in the upcoming editions of the IPL and also for India and wishes him well in his new journey.

“Look KL has always been a family to me, and always will be. Not only he led LSG for three years, but also performed really well. So, I can only wish well for him, no matter what. He’s a gentle human being and good things happen to such people. He’s talented, and uber-talented for sure. Hopefully, his talent comes out well for Team India. I am sure, both LSG and Rahul will do well in the new phase,” Goenka said in the TRS podcast.

Notably, Delhi Capitals signed Rahul for INR 14 crore ahead of the IPL 2025. He is one of the favourites to lead the franchise next season but Delhi are yet to confirm any development. A decision is expected to be taken ahead of the IPL season. In the meantime, Rahul is currently representing India in the series against Australia. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, he did well in the first Test, which helped the cricketer retain his spot in the playing XI for the second game.
He failed to contribute enough in the Adelaide Test, which raised speculations about him coming back to number six but team India is very likely to back him in the opener’s slot at Gabba.
