India and New Zealand squared off in the first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. On Day 2 of the Test, New Zealand pacers leveraged the overcast conditions and plucked out Indian batters for fun. Matt Henry and William O’Rourke were at their lethal best as they picked five and four wickets respectively. As a result, India were bundled up for just 46 runs.
This was India’s lowest total in a Test at home and second-lowest overall. They scored 36 runs against Australia, batting in the second inning during Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020. As the social media was abuzz commenting on the Indian batting collapse, former England captain, Michael Vaughan took a sly dig at Indian fans and urged them to be optimistic that India managed to score beyond 36 runs.
“Look on the bright side Indian fans .. at least you have got past 36,” Vaughan tweeted.

The pitch has been under the covers: Rohit
The Day 1 of the Test was washed out as incessant rains in Bengaluru did not even let the toss take place. Moreover, the city was marred by rain for almost 4 days before the commencement of the game. As a result, even the pitch curator could not take the covers off from the pitch and Rohit Sharma expected a sticky wicket after winning the toss.

“We are going to have a bat first. It has been under the covers and we do understand that it could be slightly sticky early on but the nature of the pitch is such that you would want to put runs on the board first. You want to get the result as much as we want. We assess where we are and decide what needs to be done as a team. We have played well in the last few Test matches. Fresh series for us and we want to start well. From the last Test two changes, Gill misses out, and Sarfaraz comes in. Kuldeep comes in for Akash,” said Rohit at the toss.
