LSG vs MI: Sanjiv Goenka prays during tense final-over thriller between Lucknow and Mumbai

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen praying during the final over of the high-voltage thriller against Mumbai Indians (MI). Notably, Lucknow edged past the five-time winners by five runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, in Lucknow, on Tuesday, May 16.

In the midst of the final over, the visiting team required 11 off six balls to clinch the crucial two points. However, during the tense affair, LSG’s owner—Sanjiv Goenka, who was present in the stands, was seen praying throughout the last two balls of the over.

It seemed as though his prayers came to fruition as Mohsin Khan successfully defended the 11 runs needed off the last over. Notably, LSG posted a competitive total of 177 runs in their 20 overs in the first innings, courtesy of Marcus Stoinis’ blazing knock of an unbeaten 89 off 47 balls, which featured eight sixes and four boundaries at a stunning strike rate of 189.36.

Mumbai Indians stutter in the final-over thriller 

In response to the total, Mumbai’s opening duo of Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma swiftly hit the ground running. The pair added 90 runs for the first wicket before LSG drew curtains on Rohit’s innings for 37 runs off 25 balls.

Following his dismissal, Ishan too headed back to the dugout as did Suryakumar Yadav, Nehal Wadhera, and Vishnu Vinod, as Mumbai were reduced to 145/5. Though the home team clawed their way back into the contest, the five-time winners were still steady in the chase with Tim David and Cameron Green in the middle. 

Even though Tim David injected energy into the innings and played a blazing innings of an unbeaten 19-ball 32, Green on the other hand, failed to get the required big runs during the crunch moments of the game. 

Despite getting hammered for 13 runs in his first over, Mohsin Khan was handed the responsibility of defending the vital runs in the final over. The left-arm pacer was sharp with his line and length and outrightly dominated David and Green, giving away mere five runs in the last over thriller which helped LSG win the contest.
