LSG vs PBKS: Why is Shikhar Dhawan not playing?
The veteran Indian opener picked up an injury in the previous game with Sam Curran leading the side in his absence.
Punjab Kings were handed a severe blow ahead of their IPL 2023 clash against Lucknow Super Giants after their influential skipper Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the match due to an injury. Star English all-rounder Sam Curran, who will be leading the side in Dhawan's absence, confirmed the southpaw's injury after the toss.
Shikhar Dhawan, who is the leading run-scorer of IPL 2023 so far, was ruled out of the clash against Lucknow Super Giants after he suffered an injury in the previous game against reigning champions Gujarat Titans. However, stand-in skipper Sam Curran was unsure about the extent of Dhawan's injury.
"We'll bowl first. Something we haven't done all season so just needed a change up. Also our first toss that we have won this season. Shilkhar picked up an injury last game, don't know how bad it is but hopefully he won't be out long. His absence is huge, we've got two Indian batters coming in and Raza is back in the XI," Curran said after the toss.
Punjab's stand-in skipper call it right at the toss, winning his side's first toss in the tournament, and decided to bowl first on a greenish-looking surface at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. While star all-rounder Sikandar Raza made his return to the playing eleven, Atharva Taide and Harpreet Singh Bhatia were also drafted into the playing eleven for the game against KL Rahul's side.
