The Lucknow Super Giants hosted the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 43rd game of IPL 2023 as the visitors opted to bat first at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 1, Monday. The innings did not start well for the hosts, as skipper KL Rahul injured himself while attempting to stop the ball on the boundary.
As RCB openers started off on a positive note, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis hit the ball wide off covers. Rahul managed to chase it but fell just short, thereby injuring himself in the process. The team physio imeediately attended the batter as he looked in excruciating pain, and later took him off the field.
Rahul injured his right thigh, which could probably mean that he pulled a hamstring. In Rahul's absence, Krunal Pandya has been leading the side, but there still has not been an update on the extent of the skipper's injury. The team might look to get an impact player in Rahul's absence when they get to the chase, and the opening combination will see a change in that case.
This is the second time that RCB and LSG have squared off in the tournament. When the two sides last met at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, LSG snatches a victory from the jaws of defeat on the final delivery of the final over while chasing the target.
Though KL Rahul's form has been a matter of concern, LSG are backed with a magnificent victory from their previous game, where they defeated the Punjab Kings after putting up the second-highest total in the tournament's history. The hosts would look to carry the same momentum and make it 2-0 against RCB this season.
