Mayank Agarwal bosses yo-yo test with impressive 21.1 score, shares video
Agarwal, who is currently out of the Indian team, is preparing for the upcoming Indian domestic season.
Team India has become a dominant force in world cricket, and one of the secrets to their success is their relentless focus on fitness standards. Under the guidance of their conditioning coach, the team has adopted rigorous fitness drills, with the yo-yo endurance test being a prominent feature. Players are chosen at random after net sessions and subjected to a series of demanding fitness drills, which has undoubtedly contributed to their consistent performances across all formats.
Star Indian and Karnataka batter Mayank Agarwal recently shared a video of himself doing the yo-yo test, in which he scored an impressive 21.1. Agarwal, who is currently out of the Indian team, is preparing for the upcoming Indian domestic season. He also scored a magnificent century in the recently concluded Maharaja Trophy and would be looking to make a comeback to the Indian Team with some good performances in the upcoming domestic season.
Yo-Yo test: An integral part of the Indian cricket team's fitness regimen
The yo-yo test is a challenging fitness assessment that involves sprinting back and forth between two markers placed 20 meters apart, with progressively shorter time intervals. The test is a true measure of an athlete's endurance, and a player's score is calculated based on how many shuttles they complete before fatigue sets in.
During Virat Kohli's captaincy tenure, India had set a minimum score of 16.1 for players as the benchmark. Interestingly, there are a few players who have a better test score than even Kohli, arguably one of the fittest athletes. Some of the players include Manish Pandey with a score of 19.2, Mayank Agarwal with a score of 20.1, Ahmed Banday with a score of 19.4, Mayank Dagar with a score of 19.3, and Hardik Pandya with a score greater than 19.
The score for each player keeps fluctuating, depending on their fitness levels at the time of the test.
