In a significant move ahead of the upcoming season 2 of the Women's Premier League (WPL), the Gujarat Giants have announced the appointment of former Australia cricketer Michael Klinger as their head coach. This announcement adds a new dimension to the team's coaching staff, aiming for a robust performance in the league.
Klinger, who retired in 2019 as the Men's Big Bash League's highest-ever run-scorer, brings a wealth of experience to the Gujarat Giants. Having served as an assistant coach for the Sydney Thunder in the Women's Big Bash League, he is well-versed in the dynamics of women's cricket. Klinger's coaching stint with the Melbourne Renegades Men's team from 2019 to 2021 further solidifies his credentials.

Joining forces with cricketing legend Mithali Raj, who assumes the role of Mentor and Advisor for the team, Klinger expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season.,
“Working with Michael will help bring out the best in the Gujarat Giants players. His expertise with the bat is also well-known and will surely benefit some of the younger members of our team. We look forward to having Klinger in the dressing room. We are sure of attaining success with him as head coach," he said in a statement released by Gujarat Giants, as quoted by The Statesman.
Sanjay Adesara, Chief Brand Officer at Adani Sportsline, also expressed confidence in Klinger's addition to the coaching staff.
"Michael Klinger is a very worthy addition to the Gujarat Giants and Adani Sportsline family. He has shown great pedigree in the BBL as both coach and player. This will surely help our team in the upcoming season of the WPL as well as in the future. He will work closely with Mithali Raj as the two guide our team to greater heights,” he said.
The Giants are gearing up for their first match against the Mumbai Indians on February 25, and with the new coaching setup, they aim to make a mark in the league, guided by the seasoned hands of Klinger and the legendary Mithali Raj.
