Even after playing a sensational brand of cricket throughout the course of the ODI World Cup 2023, the Indian team fell short on the night of the finals as they lost to Australia by six wickets. The players were devastated following the loss, as many were spotted in tears while the Australian players were elated and celebrated in some style.

After the victory and the prize distribution, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was spotted celebrating with his legs on top of the trophy, which didn’t sit well with some of the fans. Skipper Pat Cummins shared the same on his Instagram profile but it went viral on X (formerly Twitter) as some of the netizens asked the International Cricket Committee (ICC) to interfere and take a step as they believe that it is a sign of disrespect.

Head-Labuschagne's solid partnership took the ODI World Cup Final game away from India

When it comes to the match, the Aussies absolutely dominated the Men in Blue for the majority of the match to win their sixth world title. Rohit Sharma was incredible with the bat in the powerplay but once he got out on 47 runs, things changed for India. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul tried to stitch an important partnership to bail India out but none of them were successful in doing so.

However, courtesy of their half-centuries, India managed to post 240 runs on board, which never looked enough. Nevertheless, India picked up three quick wickets in the powerplay which restored the belief and slowly and steadily, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne took the game away from India’s reach. Head hit 137 runs while Labuschagne scored 58* runs, as Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs to help Australia win the match with 42 balls remaining.

Mohammed Siraj and Rohit Sharma were spotted in tears after the loss while KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah consoled them. Rohit meanwhile congratulated the Australian team in the post-match presentation, while a disappointed Indian team walked back to the dressing room with the Australian team lifting the trophy in the background.
