'Because you guys are sitting in AC boxes' - Mohammed Shami's cheeky reply to Harsha Bhogle after taking fifer against Australia
Mohammed Shami played only a couple of games in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2023.
The in-form Mohammed Siraj was rested in the first ODI of the three-match series between India and Australia. Mohammed Shami got an opportunity and he grabbed it with both hands, ending with career-best figures of 5/51 in 10 overs.
After his glorious stint with the ball, the veteran pacer was speaking to the commentators in the mid-innings break. Renowned commentator and broadcaster Harsha Bhogle asked Shami whether the humid conditions in Mohali were taking their toll on his body. Shami gave a tongue-in-cheek reply, saying that the experienced commentator won't be able to fathom the difficulty of the unpleasant conditions as he is sitting in the air-conditioned commentary box.
Harsha Bhogle - Were you feeling the heat today?
Mohammed Shami - yes probably, because you guys are sitting in the AC boxes, we were on the ground (laughs).
Ruturaj Gaikwad departs for a well-made half-century after giving India a fine start
On the back of Mohammed Shami's brilliant effort with the ball, India bowled out Australia for 276 in 50 overs. In reply, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad took the attack to the Australian bowlers and scored 66 runs in the first powerplay. Both batters played some fabulous shots en route to their respective half-centuries.
Gaikwad was eventually dismissed LBW by Adam Zampa for a well-compiled 71 off 77 balls, hitting 10 fours during his stay in the middle. The talented duo formed a 142-run partnership off 130 balls to get India in the box seat in the first ODI of the series. After Gaikwad's dismissal, India sent in Shreyas Iyer at No. 3 and would have hoped that the Mumbai batter would get some runs under his belt ahead of the impending ODI World Cup. However, his innings was cut short when a miscommunication with Shubman led to him being run out for three off eight deliveries.
