After a few brilliant seasons with Chennai Super Kings, Mohit Sharma lost his way in the middle and joined Gujarat Titans as their net bowler in IPL 2022. Impressed by his qualities, GT head coach Ashish Nehra signed him for IPL 2023, but the 35-year-old couldn’t break into the playing XI. However, after waiting on the bench for a couple of matches, he earned an opportunity and eventually picked up 27 wickets in 14 matches and finished as the second-leading wicket-taker of the tournament. However, not everything went perfectly for him.

In the final of IPL 2023 against Chennai Super Kings, Mohit leaked 10 runs in the last two balls, which cost GT the trophy. However, that didn’t affect his relationship with the franchise. Ahead of IPL 2024, Mohit stated that when he was injured earlier in the season, Nehra and the GT’s Director of Cricket, Vikram Solanki were in constant touch with him and added that the prior even shared tips to recover better.

“Time flew in these past nine months, I didn’t even realise. It feels like the season just got over. In a way, I have been occupied throughout. I was home for a month after the IPL. After which, I went to England. It was a family holiday. Thereafter, we had practice. Then I started practising for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament,” Mohit said in a video released by Gujarat Titans.

“Then I was injured. I went to rehab after that. Anyway, I was in constant touch with Ashu Bhai (Nehra) and Vicky Bhai (Solanki). I think, within 24 hours of getting injured, someone from GT reaches out as soon as they know a player is injured and then they help you carry the process forward. They tell you how to go about it - the rehab, scans. In my case, they have handled it all,” he added.

Notably, Gujarat will start their campaign on March 24 against Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
