MI vs PBKS: Tim David thumps 114-meter six off Nathan Ellis; second-longest of IPL 2023
Ellis missed the yorker as David smashed it over the mid-wicket to cheer up the crowd.
Mumbai Indians suffered a disappointing 13-run defeat against Punjab Kings while chasing a big 215-run target in the 31st Indian Premier League 2023 match at Wankhede Stadium on April 22. Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav smashed brilliant fifties to guide Mumbai closer to the target but Arshdeep Singh's heroics in the last over snatched two big points from Mumbai. Meanwhile, Tim David treated fans with a huge 114-meter six off Nathan Ellis in the 19th over which landed out of the park.
Ellis missed the yorker as David smashed it over the mid-wicket to cheer up the crowd and put Mumbai Indians front in the chase. Mumbai bench including skipper Rohit Sharma and owner Neeta Ambani applauded the monstrous six, which is the second-longest this season after Royal Challengers Bangalore's Faf du Plessis' 115-meter strike against Lucknow Super Giants.
Mumbai Indians needed only 23 runs off the last ten balls after David's huge six but Punjab Kings' bowlers managed to hold off the hosts to 201/6. Ellis conceded just seven runs off his next four balls as David and Tilak Verma struggled to find boundaries.
Arshdeep bowled the last over for Punjab with David on strike. The Australian snapped a single to give a strike to Tilak but the latter missed the second delivery and was bowled out on the third delivery. His delivery broke the middle stump into two pieces. Arshdeep then further stunned the home crowd by dismissing Nehal Wadhera in a similar fashion. The left-arm pacer conceded just one run off his last delivery to record a 13-run win for his team.
David remained unbeaten at 25 as he faced just one delivery in the 20th over. Arshdeep took overall four wickets for 29 and also earned the Purple Cap for the first time this season. Sam Curran bagged the Player of the Match for his 55 off 29 as Punjab Kings surpassed Mumbai Indians in the points table to jump to the fifth position with eight points.
