Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen continued his banter involving former India captain MS Dhoni. Pietersen uploaded a video on May 16 clarifying the misconception that he was MS Dhoni’s first Test wicket, as claimed by the latter in a hilarious conversation during IPL 2016. The video showed how the England batter had reviewed the decision during Lord’s Test in 2011 and was given not out by the third umpire.

Continuing with the banter, Pietersen shared another video on May 17 but this time he turned the tables as he uploaded a video where he dismissed MS Dhoni, during the third Test at the Oval in 2007. Dhoni was batting well on 92 and came down the track to smack Pietersen, however, he failed to get the distance and was caught at deep mid-wicket.  Pietersen took to Twitter to share the video and wrote, “MS Dhoni c Cook b Pietersen”

Notably, Pietersen has 18 scalps in international cricket across all three formats on the other hand Dhoni has only one wicket to his name in his international career i.e. Travis Dowlin of West Indies in ODI cricket.

India won the 2007 Test series by 1-0

Coming back to Oval Test where Pietersen dismissed Dhoni, the game is famously remembered for Anil Kumble’s first Test hundred. The wrist-spinner was the only centurion in the innings with his knock of 110*, while Dinesh Karthik (91), Sachin Tendulkar (82) and Dhoni (92) played brilliant knocks to help India post 664 in the first innings of the game.

In reply, England were bundled out for 345 in their first innings and India ended up scoring 180/6 in the second innings setting England a target of 500 runs. England scored 369/6 and the game ended in a draw. As a result, India won the series by 1-0 and registered their third series win in England. Anil Kumble was awarded Player of the Match for his hundred and picking five wickets during the match.
