'Mummy, papa, aap dono se zamaana hai' - Dhruv Jurel pens emotional note for his parents after maiden India call-up

Uttar Pradesh wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel earned his maiden call-up to the Indian cricket team as he got selected for the first two Tests of the five-match series against England beginning from January 25. The 22-year-old has been added to the 16-member squad as the backup wicketkeeper to KL Rahul and KS Bharat in the absence of Ishan Kishan who’s reportedly taken a break from cricket due to mental fatigue.

After realizing his dream of getting selected to play for his country, Jurel thanked his parents for all the sacrifices they’ve made for his career. He further promised them that it’s just a start and there’s a lot left to be achieved.

Jurel took to Twitter to share a screenshot of a video call with his parents and wrote, "Thank you will be an understatement. For all the sacrifices my mother and father have made, so that their boy could hold a bat and just play cricket. I promise this is just the start. Mummy, papa, aap dono se zamaana hai. Aur abhi bohot naam kamaana hai!.”

Earlier in an interview, Jurel revealed how his father borrowed money to buy him a cricket bat and his mother sold her gold chain to give him a cricket kit. Jurel’s stocks have been rising in recent times as he played a brilliant role as a finisher for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023.

Jurel has 790 runs in his first-class career

The right-handed batter scored 152 runs from 11 innings at an average of 21.71 and a strike rate of 172.72 with a highest score of 34. Jurel has further scored 790 runs in his first-class career at an average of 46.47 with one hundred and five fifties to his name.

He was also the vice-captain of India’s U19 World Cup squad in 2020 as he scored 89 runs from three innings an average of 44.50 with one fifty with the Men in Blue finishing as runner-ups of the tournament. The 22-year-old will further look to leave a mark at the international level on his debut.
