Star India batter Virat Kohli enjoys stardom, unlike any other current cricketer in the world. The 35-year-old is one of the most followed athletes globally along with Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Arguably he is almost worshipped by the Indian fans. Australia captain, Pat Cummins highlighted the very aspect and gave a jest about Kohli’s fans.

Cummins said that after a critical comment on Kohli and his fans, social media blew up. The Australia pacer recalled an incident where he had complimented the star batter and hoped he would not score a century against them. This particular comment did not go down with Kohli fans, and Cummins had to bear the brunt on social media.

“If you live on social media at all, you get absolutely hounded by them. Say anything about Virat Kohli and look out for the next few years. I remember I said something a few years ago and it was actually a compliment. I said that he is a gun player and hoped he would not score 100 and then after six months when he scored a 100, my social media blew up,” said Cummins in an interview.

It’s nice feeling like not everyone’s against you: Cummins

Australia skipper Pat Cummins is one of the few players who have a love-hate relationship with the Indian fans. The Indian fans were heartbroken when he led the Men in Yellow to the ODI World Cup 2023 title thwarting India in Ahmedabad. But the same fans welcomed with utmost love and affection when he was named as the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain for Indian Premier League 2024.

“India is like a second home. We spend so much time here. IPL you’ve got your home teams. So you actually feel like you’ve got plenty of fans Or, you know, at least cricket fans that have, you know, supported you or, you know, lots of people come up to me and say, Oh, I’m from Kolkata or I go for KKR. So it’s nice feeling like not everyone’s against you,” said Cummins ahead of IPL 2024.
