In the world of cricket, the evergreen rivalry between bat and ball often takes centre stage, and on a day when the willow wielders appeared to be in complete command, it was the seasoned off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who emerged as the game-changer in the second ODI clash between India and Australia. The contest, held in Indore, witnessed a formidable batting display by the Men in Blue, who posted an imposing total of 399/5 on the scoreboard.

In what initially seemed like a paradise for batters, Ashwin's spell in the second innings painted a contrasting picture. With remarkable consistency, the crafty off-spinner extracted sharp turn from the surface, derailing Australia's chase with the prized scalps of three crucial wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal, the out-of-favour India wrist spinner, couldn't help but express his admiration for Ashwin's mesmerising performance. Taking to the virtual realm, Chahal shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter) saying,

"Ravichandran Ashwin name is enough @ashwinravi99 #Legend #INDvsAUS.”

Here's Chahal's latest post on 'X':

The Yuzvendra Chahal conundrum

The selection conundrum faced by the committee was a topic of discussion, as they had to make the arduous choice between the wrist-spinning duo of Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Both spin maestros possessed exceptional skills, but with the presence of two spin all-rounders in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, accommodating two wrist spinners was a logistical challenge. Ultimately, the selectors opted to go with Kuldeep, who had showcased remarkable prowess since his resurgence in the Indian ODI setup.

Kuldeep's inclusion not only fortified the bowling attack but also added depth to the batting lineup. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old found himself on the fringes, a circumstance that echoed his exclusion from the 2021 T20 World Cup squad. Nevertheless, Chahal's record in the Indian Premier League speaks volumes of his spin wizardry, with a staggering tally of 187 wickets at an average of 21.68 and an economy rate of 7.66, underscoring his undeniable prowess in the art of spin bowling.
