ODI World Cup 2023: Top 10 Memes from AFG vs NED, Match 34
In match 34 of the ODI World Cup 2023, Afghanistan beat the Netherlands by seven wickets.
The 34th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup was played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, where Afghanistan and Netherlands faced off each other. The Netherlands won the toss and elected to bat first.
Batting first, the Dutch had a poor start as Mujeeb Ur Rahman, in the very first over, dismissed Wesley Barresi with an delivery that turned in sharp, marking a significant milestone by claiming his 100th ODI wicket. Max O'Dowd then played an array of strokes, amassing nine fours within the first powerplay. His brilliant batting display was curtailed by a moment of brilliance from Azmatullah Omarzai, who executed a run-out from fine leg, sending O'Dowd back to the pavilion with a well-made 42 off 40 balls.
The Netherlands' batting innings was further hampered when a miscommunication between Colin Ackermann and Sybrand Engelbrecht resulted in the former's run-out for 29. Captain Scott Edwards became the third victim to run out when a sweep attempt led him out of the crease, unaware that the ball had ricocheted off the inside-edge and into the wicketkeeper's hands with the bails off.
Engelbrecht tried to anchor the innings with a gritty half-century, but was ultimately run out when he took on Mohammad Nabi's bowling at midwicket. As the lower-order batters crumbled, the Dutch team were bowled out for just 179 in 46.3 overs.
In the chase, Afghanistan faced a minor hiccup when Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed early. However, a resilient partnership between Ibrahimullah Zadran and Rahmat Shah stabilised the innings. Both batters contributed significantly, with Rahmat scoring a solid 52. Despite Rahmat's dismissal, captain Hashmatullah Shahidi joined in, and together, they stitched a brilliant 76-run partnership for the third wicket, all but guaranteeing Afghanistan's victory.
In the end, Afghanistan displayed their dominance on the field, securing a convincing seven-wicket victory over the Netherlands.
