India emerged victorious against Bangladesh in the 17th match of the 2023 ODI World Cup at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. After winning the toss, Bangladesh chose to bat first and their opening batters, Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das, started cautiously against India's formidable bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj.

The first five overs witnessed a slow scoring rate with only 10 runs on the board. However, Litton Das took advantage of a few short deliveries from Siraj in the sixth over and started a resurgence. Tanzid joined in with a six off Bumrah, followed by a series of boundaries against Siraj, shifting the momentum in Bangladesh's favour.

From a slow start of 10/0 in the first five overs, Bangladesh quickly raced to 63/0 after the powerplay. The openers seemed in control until Kuldeep Yadav's spin magic finally broke their partnership. From 93/0, Bangladesh found themselves in trouble at 137/4. India's bowlers dominated during this crucial middle period, forcing Bangladesh to rely on Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim to set a competitive total.

Mahmudullah played some aggressive shots in the final five overs against India's pace trio, helping Bangladesh reach a respectable total of 256.

In response, the Indian team got off to a strong start with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill forging a solid partnership of 88 runs for the first wicket. Although Rohit Sharma was eventually dismissed, Shubman Gill reached a well-deserved half-century. Virat Kohli then showcased his batting prowess with an outstanding century, scoring 103 off just 97 balls. His remarkable performance paved the way for India's victory as they won the match by seven wickets with 51 balls remaining.
