KL Rahul fails to impress for India A

KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel joined the India A squad in Australia immediately after India were whitewashed by New Zealand at home earlier this month. The Karnataka batter opened alongside Abhimanyu Easwaran in the second unofficial Test between India A and Australia A. The two players had an opportunity to audition for the role of the third opener in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

However, in the first innings of the unofficial Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Rahul lost his wicket to Scott Boland, as he nicked one behind to wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson after scoring just four runs. In the second innings, the 32-year-old had a chance to redeem himself. However, he was dismissed for a 44-ball 10 by off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli, who bowled him between his legs.

Easwaran also failed in both innings, as he registered scores of 0 and 17. Indian captain Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the first Test, and either Easwaran or Rahul should open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The first Test gets underway on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
