In the fifth and final ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi, the home crowd was spotted calling out opener Shan Masood as ‘Parchi’ - which means, that he got into the squad based on recommendations and favouritism and not on merit.
Notably, the 33-year-old managed to score only 52 runs in three matches of Pakistan vs New Zealand series and also failed to get going in the final ODI, and thus, fans are really unhappy with his performance so far.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Pakistan fans have called out a player as Parchi. In the year 2022, Khushdil Shah faced the same fate during Pakistan’s series against England. Later on, Shah’s teammate Imam-ul-Haq took the matter to Twitter and asked the fans to avoid these kinds of chants as it badly affects the mental health of a player.
New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 47 runs in the final ODI
After losing four matches on the trot, New Zealand finally managed to register their first win in the fifth and final ODI of the series. Opener Will Young looked in great touch as the 30-year-old hit 87 runs off 91 deliveries. Later on, skipper Tom Latham managed to score 59 runs off 58 deliveries while Mark Chapman posted 43 runs off 33 deliveries. Courtesy of their valuable knocks, the Kiwis posted 299 runs on board in the first innings.
Meanwhile, even though they looked at least 30 runs short since the surface in Karachi has favoured the batters so far, Kiwi bowlers did a remarkable job with the new ball. None of Shan Masood, Babar Azam, or Mohammad Rizwan managed to score in double digits as Pakistan were 52-3 at one point. Opener Fakhar Zaman, who’s in brilliant form at the moment, too walked back to the pavilion after scoring 33 off 64 deliveries.
Thus, the Men in Green were under tremendous pressure but Agha Salman and Iftikhar Ahmed released a lot of it by playing some brilliant cricket. Batting at number five, Salman managed to score 57 runs off 57 deliveries while Iftikhar wreaked havoc, scoring 94* runs off 72 deliveries. However, his valiant effort, in the end, came short as New Zealand won the match by 47 runs.
