Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter and captain of Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant, who had been involved in an unfortunate car accident, seems all set to make a comeback into competitive cricket after a long break.

Recently, he posted a story indicating his readiness, showcasing his dedication to a comeback through an image of a leg workout. Pant is expected to lead his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL 2024.

A few days back, in a shocking turn of events, it was revealed that Pant has been duped of a whopping Rs 1.63 crore by a former under-19 player. The 25-year-old culprit, Mrinank Singh, was apprehended by Delhi Police on Monday, leaving many in disbelief.

Pant, who ventured into a new business dealing with luxury goods, found himself at the centre of a fraudulent scheme. Eklavya Dwivedi, Pant's lawyer, revealed in a Sports Tak interview that the wicketkeeper-batter had initiated a business that involved purchasing high-end products at reasonable prices. Little did he know that this would lead to a significant financial setback.

"Singh was entrusted with procuring expensive watches and jewelry for Pant. However, he failed to deliver the promised products, prompting Pant to issue a legal notice demanding the owed Rs 1.63 crore," stated Dwivedi.

Singh handed Pant a cheque for the specified amount to settle the debt. Unfortunately, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds, leaving Pant at a loss.

The saga continued as Singh, in July 2022, stayed at the Taj Hotel for a week, accumulating a bill of Rs 5.53 lakh. When confronted about the unpaid bill, Singh claimed that Adidas, his alleged sponsor, would cover the expenses.

Repeated promises to settle the dues fell through, leading to a formal complaint against Singh. Matters escalated on Monday when Singh was apprehended at Delhi airport, attempting to flee to Hong Kong. In a bizarre twist, he tried to impersonate a senior Karnataka police officer, Alok Kumar, seeking assistance from immigration officials.

Despite the elaborate ruse, immigration authorities handed Singh over to Delhi Police, ending his deceptive endeavours.
