Pat Cummins returns to low-key welcome in Australia after winning World Cup 2023
Australia won the World Cup 2023 on November 19.
Pat Cummins returned to Australia after winning the World Cup 2023 by defeating India on November 19 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, Cummins returned to a relatively dry Airport as there were not many people to welcome him after bringing home the World Cup.
Notably, Cummins returned to his nation after clinching the World Cup glory for Australia for the 6th time. Some of his teammates returned with him while some have stayed in India to be part of the five-match T20I series against the hosts.
Cummins addressed the press after his arrival in Australia and stated that they are still buzzing and beaming with joy with the fact of having won the prestigious World Cup. Skipper Cummins did play a crucial role in guiding his troops to the ultimate glory in Ahmedabad after Australia were sort of written off after losing their initial two games of the World Cup.
"I think we’ll be smiling for a fair while. We are still buzzing. Every half an hour so, you kind of remember that you just won a World Cup and get excited all over again. You only get one chance every four years and especially playing somewhere like India, it’s hard," said Cummins as quoted by India Today.
On the night of the finale, Australia restricted India to an average total of 240 runs and Travis Head rocked the home bowlers to steer Australia over the line with a solid century. Cummins and his men bagged the mega tournament by six wickets to enter the record books. Cummins was phenomenal in finals as he bagged two crucial wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli.
